Viking River Cruisers

Established in 1997 by a Dutch and Swiss Consortium, Viking River Cruises is the world's largest river cruise line, with 23 ships sailing the rivers of Europe, Russia and China. River cruising is an intimate, up-close way to explore your destination. Viking River Cruises' ships average just 150 passengers, and often dock right in the heart of town, providing "walk off your ship" access into Europe.

Another perk: guided shore excursions in each port of call are included in passengers' cruise fares.

The Fleet
Viking River's fleet is 23 ships strong (16 of which are geared to U.S. passengers). 2005's Viking Century Sky is the largest at 415 feet long, with six decks and two elevators; the 306-passenger ship carries nearly twice as many passengers as Viking Century Star, introduced in 2004. Other ships include the Viking Seine (formerly Viking Rhone), which cruises along France's River Rhone and its main tributary, the Saone, and Viking Spirit, which travels the Danube in December for Christmas market cruises.

Onboard
Created specifically for river cruising, Viking's European fleet features panoramic windows, sun decks and promenades to watch passing scenery, and warm public rooms like inviting bars, cozy libraries and charming restaurants. All cabins feature outside views and include telephone, television, radio, hairdryer, private bathroom, hotel-style beds and individually controlled air conditioning.

In China, Viking River's Viking Century Sky and Viking Century Sun feature even more cruise-like amenities, such as a gym, beauty salon, massage rooms, Internet center, balconies and larger-than-average standard cabins. Ships sailing in China have one advantage that those cruising Europe do not: there are no low-slung bridges so the China-oriented vessels can be designed to accommodate more features.

With all outside cabins and a maximum occupancy of 154 passengers, the Viking Burgundy offers an intimate and comfortable way to cruise the rivers of Europe or Russia. Rooms have air conditioning, telephone, TV, hairdryer, safe and bathroom with shower. The promenade on the upper deck allows for sightseeing as the ship sails from port to port, and the ship's bar and lounge provide comfortable venues for socializing between stops.

The Viking Seine is an ideal way to cruise the waterways of France. Take advantage of the Sun deck and Promenade on the Upper deck to fully experience the enchanting scenery of the French countryside. Between ports, indulge in the finest European cuisine in the ship's resaturant and mingle with other passengers in the bar and lounge. Pass travel time with a book from the library or purchase goodies in the souvenir shop. All cabins feature a private bathroom, telephone, television, hairdryer, safe and air conditioning.
